[Combat Rules] HEMA

At Egdehirden, safety and fair play are our top priorities.
Here are the basic HEMA sparring rules you must follow during training and bouts:

⚔️ Rules

  • Target Areas: The entire body is a valid target except:
    • The back of the head
    • The neck (throat is a valid target)
    • The groin
    • The feet
  • Techniques:
    • Cuts and thrusts are allowed
    • Grappling is allowed, but must be done in a controlled manner to avoid injuries
  • Always respect your opponent and stop immediately if the referee calls “halt”.

🛡️ Required Equipment for HEMA Sparring

For safety, all participants must wear the following equipment:

  • Fencing mask with back-of-the-head protection
  • Padded fencing jacket
  • Gorget
  • Protective gloves suitable for HEMA
  • Groin protection
  • Forearm protectors
  • Elbow protectors
  • Knee protectors
  • Shin protectors
  • Shoes

This gear ensures you can train safely while still enjoying the intensity and realism of historical fencing.
