Here are the basic HEMA sparring rules you must follow during training and bouts:

- Target Areas: The entire body is a valid target except:
- The back of the head
- The neck (throat is a valid target)
- The groin
- The feet
- Techniques:
- Cuts and thrusts are allowed
- Grappling is allowed, but must be done in a controlled manner to avoid injuries
- Always respect your opponent and stop immediately if the referee calls “halt”.
🛡️ Required Equipment for HEMA Sparring
For safety, all participants must wear the following equipment:
- Fencing mask with back-of-the-head protection
- Padded fencing jacket
- Gorget
- Protective gloves suitable for HEMA
- Groin protection
- Forearm protectors
- Elbow protectors
- Knee protectors
- Shin protectors
- Shoes
This gear ensures you can train safely while still enjoying the intensity and realism of historical fencing.
